Traveling by bus through the Italian countryside to hilltop Assisi, we’ll visit St. Francis Basilica where inside you can trace St. Francis’s life through the amazing wall frescos. And for those of you who don’t know what frescos are, don’t worry I’ve already googled it…they’re mural paintings on the walls, you’re welcome.
Next we shall continue through the countryside to Florence, the capital of the Tuscany region; a.k.a the region known for wine, champagne, and cocktails oh yeahhh. Anyways, Day 20 starts off with a sightseeing tour of Florence with a local guide. We’ll check out Florence on foot and get a feel for the city’s Renaissance glory days in sports by see the Piazza della Signoria and the Ponte Vecchio. And then continuing onto the gothic Basillca di Santa Crocewhich houses which is the final resting places of many legendary Italians, including Michelangelo and Galileo.
Our next and final stop in the beautiful Florence we’ll visit the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Flore, better known as the Duomo because of its famous dome. The dome was designed in the 14th century by sculptor and architect Brunelleschi.
